Hi, I'm Carola Meinl
After finishing school, I thought I wanted to study biology or geoecology. But neither option felt quite right. Then I came across a brand-new degree programme in Biomedical Materials, and something just clicked. I knew I'd found the right path.
This is my working world
At the time, I wasn't too concerned that the course was rooted in classic materials engineering. What fascinated me was the idea of developing materials that could improve people's lives, from implants to artificial skin.
As my studies progressed, I realised I was specialising very early on. That led me to switch my focus to plastics engineering. Looking back, it was a decision that has shaped my career ever since. Stay curious, keep broadening your perspective and always be open to new opportunities.
After graduating, I spent 16 years working across a wide range of industries and applications. Four years ago, that journey brought me to Sekisui Alveo.
The role of Application Development Engineer for automotive foam solutions was a perfect fit for my experience. But it wasn't just the role that convinced me. During the interview and while touring the laboratories and offices, I immediately got the feeling that this was a place where knowledgeable people genuinely enjoy doing what they do.

A career in engineering naturally comes with its challenges. As a woman in a technical field, there are still moments when you feel you have to prove your expertise more than others. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is the importance of making yourself heard and speaking confidently about what you know.
Today, I support colleagues and customers in finding the right solution for every application. I contribute my technical expertise, guide development projects and help turn new ideas into reality. What I value most is that ideas are listened to here. Taking ownership isn't just encouraged, it's expected.
To me, personal growth means stepping outside your comfort zone time and again. It isn't always easy, but that's where real development happens.
When I shared my career ambitions with the leadership team, they gave me the opportunity to start preparing for a potential future role as Business Unit Manager. Even now, I'm gaining valuable experience that helps me grow. The trust they've placed in me means a lot. I think that's one of the reasons I enjoy coming to work every day. I know I can make an impact. I can keep learning, continue developing and be part of a team that supports one another, trusts each other and never forgets to have fun along the way.
The future will bring new challenges. I'm certain of that. But I'm looking forward to facing them together, just as we always do with curiosity, openness and a shared focus on what comes next.
